ILCA Dinghy

ILCA Dinghy: The World’s Most Popular Racing Sailboat

The ILCA, formerly known as the Laser, is the leading single-handed racing sailboat for both youth and adults. With over 225,000 boats sailed in 140 countries, the ILCA's strict one-design class rules ensure that every boat is virtually identical — meaning races are won by skill, not equipment.

Lightweight, simple to rig, and easy to transport, the ILCA is a true “boat for life.” With three interchangeable rig sizes — ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 — this versatile dinghy grows with the sailor.

Olympic-class, club-friendly, and backed by a strong global class association, the ILCA delivers high performance, lasting value, and the pure joy of sailing.

ILCA Rig Options: One Hull, Three Rigs – A Boat That Grows With You

ILCA 4
The ILCA 4 features a short, pre-bent lower mast to maintain a balanced helm, paired with a sail that is 35% smaller than the ILCA 7. It’s the ideal choice for lighter-weight sailors transitioning from the Optimist class, offering a smooth and scalable entry into ILCA racing.

ILCA 6
Next in size, the ILCA 6 uses a more flexible, slightly shorter lower mast and a sail 18% smaller than the ILCA 7. Popular worldwide, it supports a full calendar of national and international regattas, including World Championships for men, women, and youth. The ILCA 6 is also the Olympic-class single-handed dinghy for women and is favored by lighter-weight sailors of all ages. Many countries feature strong ILCA 6 youth development programs.

ILCA 7
The ILCA 7 is the full-rig version, best suited for heavier sailors in medium to strong wind conditions, though it can be sailed by all weights in lighter winds. It is the Olympic-class single-handed dinghy for men and remains a favorite for elite-level competition and lifelong sailing.
