The International Laser Class Association has announced a major development set to reshape youth sailing worldwide. Effective January 26, 2026, the ILCA officially launched the new ILCA 4 MkII sail.
This redesign marks one of the most significant updates to the class in recent years. The new sail addresses long-standing supply challenges while aligning the ILCA 4 with the modern look, performance, and durability standards established by the ILCA 7 MkII.
Features:
-
Heavier Material: The sail now uses 4.93 oz cloth, delivering significantly improved durability and better long-term shape retention.
-
Bi-Radial Construction: A modern bi-radial cut replaces the traditional cross-cut layout, allowing the sail to handle the higher loads of contemporary sailcloth more effectively.
-
Larger Sail Window: An enlarged window improves visibility and enhances safety, particularly on crowded start lines.
-
Updated Reinforcements: Standardised reinforcement patches have been redesigned for increased longevity and consistent performance.
-
MkII Batten Configuration: The new ILCA 4 sail now matches the MkII setup used across the class, making progression between rigs more intuitive and seamless.
