Store Manager
Store Manager — Dinghy Sailing Specialty Shop
Location: West Yarmouth, Ma. In-store, full-time Schedule: 40 hours/week, in-store presence required
About the Role
We're a specialty retail shop serving the dinghy sailing community — think Optis, ILCAs, C420’s and the gear, apparel, and hardware that keep sailors on the water. We're looking for a hands-on Store Manager who loves being on the sales floor, knows how to run a tight ship (pun intended), and can keep both the customer experience and the backoffice humming.
This is a seasonal-intensive business — our biggest months are May, June, July, and August, so we need someone who's ready to be fully present and engaged during peak season, with a steadier pace through the fall and winter.
What You'll Do
Front-of-House & Sales
- Own the retail floor: greet customers, understand their needs, and turn browsers into buyers
- Maintain and refresh merchandising — seasonal displays, moving slow-movers to more visible spots, keeping the shop looking sharp
- Build relationships with our regular dingy sailing customers and the broader New England dinghy sailing community
Customer Support
- Answer questions on gear, sizing, rigging, and outrigging for a range of boat classes
- Handle online order inquiries, returns, and troubleshooting with a customer-first attitude
Staff Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate part-time and weekend staff
- Train new hires on product knowledge and customer service standards
- Be a visible, present leader on the floor — our sales consistently improve when management is physically in the shop
Back Office
- Light inventory management and reordering
- Basic sales tracking and reporting
- Coordinate with ownership on regatta and event scheduling to ensure proper store coverage
Who You Are
- Retail or customer service experience required; sailing/dinghy sailing knowledge preferred, but we are happy to train the right individual.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats — sales one minute, inventory the next, training a new hire after that
- Reliable, present, and able to commit to a full-time, in-store schedule, especially during peak summer season
- Organized enough to juggle scheduling and light back-office admin without dropping the ball on customers
- A genuine interest in sailing and the sailing community is a big plus

As the manufacturer of the McLaughlin Opti and the distributor of Devoti ILCAs, C420s, and Finns, we work closely with sailors, community sailing programs, coaches, and yacht clubs to keep the dinghy sailing community equipped and on the water.
